Why Specialized Brokers Matter

The Reefer Breakdown Denial

The Scenario: An owner-operator is hauling $80,000 worth of frozen seafood from Seattle to Chicago. During the trip across the Dakotas, the trailer's refrigeration unit suffers a sudden mechanical failure. By the time the driver notices and gets to a mechanic, the entire load has thawed and is rejected by the receiver.

The Financial Impact: The driver files a claim on their cheap, online Motor Truck Cargo policy. The claim is denied. Standard cargo policies only cover damage from collisions or fire; they exclude "temperature variation" unless specifically endorsed.

The Wedjat Difference: We know trucking. When placing refrigerated haulers, we explicitly add a Reefer Breakdown endorsement to the Motor Truck Cargo policy. Had the driver been with Wedjat, the policy would have paid the $80,000 claim, saving the driver's business.
